The Chiarlo family have been making exceptional Piedmontese wines since 1956 from their 60 hectares of vineyards which include many of the top crus for Barolo and Barbaresco. They also have access to some 50 hectares owned by partner growers who they have been working with for many decades. Today the estate is run by Michele’s sons, Stefano and Alberto, who continue their father’s legacy by focusing on traditional winemaking techniques and sustainable practices.
The fruit for this elegant Gavi is sourced from vineyards close to the town of Gavi set on high hills. Just a few kilometres to the south is the Ligurian Sea, which along with the Apennines to the west helps to create a special microclimate for premium white winemaking with regular cooling breezes from the sea and mountains.
The Chiarlos always harvest their grapes manually to ensure top quality, and once in the winery they are fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. The young wine is then left to settle on the lees for 3-4 months before bottling, creating a vibrant and refreshing white wine with plenty of mouthwatering acidity and enticing citrus and apple notes.
