Dom Pérignon is a celebrated Champagne brand owned by Moët & Chandon. The 17th-Century Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon is credited with its invention after taking up the position as the abbey's cellarer and procurator in 1668. Each vintage of Dom Pérignon is unique, with grapes sourced from only the best vineyards in Champagne. Dom Pérignon is only available as a vintage champagne and is only produced in exceptional years. Each vintage is a creation, singular and unique, that expresses both the character of the year, and the character of Dom Pérignon. Both Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon are now part of the LVMH group.
A bright and pale straw color in the glass, this is smoky, fine and driven on the nose with layers of citrus curd, flint and toast. It feels very vibrant and youthful. The palate follows, with the drive and focus of fruit at the core that penetrates the creamy, persistent mousse. Layers of toasted brioche, petrichor and lemon peel come through as the core unwinds through the mid palate. There is such brilliant energy, tension and finesse here. Through to the finish there is a building silky texture, offering a generous mouthfeel despite the enduring vibrancy. Very long through to the finish, this is undoubtedly the best Dom Perignon since the remarkable 2008.
